With the beautiful North Carolina beaches to the East and mountains to the West, Methodist University is a 600-plus-acre campus that is renowned for its academic excellence, national championship winning athletic teams, and student engagement both in the classroom and out.

Numbers can certainly speak for themselves – No. 1, most diverse university in the state of North Carolina multiple times in the past five years (Niche College Rankings), with an impressive 12-1 student-to-faculty ratio, a nationally unmatched 41 national championships in golf with 80+ individual national titles, more than 70 student organizations, more than 50 different countries represented in the student body, 51 buildings located on a campus that is just minutes from downtown, shopping, amazing restaurants/coffee shops and activities (don’t forget the Starbucks and Chick-fil-A right on campus). At MU, you’re not stuck miles and miles away from needs and fun. The city of Fayetteville is North Carolina’s sixth largest metropolitan area and is home to over 210,000 people, professional hockey and baseball teams, and numerous cultural and entertainment facilities.

MU offers bachelor’s degrees in more than 80 fields of study (majors and concentrations) including mass communications, criminal justice, business administration, engineering, forensic science, graphic design, psychology, education, and social work. The University also offers several master’s degree programs and three doctoral-level programs in nursing practice (DNP), physical therapy (DPT) and occupational therapy (OTD).

With its great reputation for excellence, MU was approved for preliminary accreditation in 2025 to open a new medical school in the summer of 2026. The first MD medical school to open in North Carolina (that’s not already affiliated with an existing medical school) in more than four decades, the Methodist University Cape Fear Valley Health School of Medicine will change the outcomes of healthcare in the Southeast region of N.C., and the state, for decades to come.
A recent NY Times study showed MU is among the top 16% of universities nationwide in social mobility, the ability to not just get a job, but succeed and grow in a profession. Much of that success comes from a strategy and consistent focus on purpose. The purpose of Methodist University is to provide an undergraduate and graduate education firmly grounded in the liberal arts tradition that nurtures moral values and ethical decision making; to provide distinctive professional and graduate programs that complement the undergraduate programs; to provide educational and cultural services and resources to the community; and to prepare students for a variety of careers and educational pursuits.
At MU, students are ENGAGED through a close-knit community and organizations and teams where you’re not just a number; students are ENRICHED by expert faculty and vocationally focused curriculum that leads to internships and jobs right out of school; and students are EMPOWERED by their experiences at MU to live exceptional lives at home, in their professions, and in their communities.
