After hearing about deep collaboration at the NCICU Annual Meeting in May of 2016, several NCICU Librarians agreed to form an ad hoc committee to investigate developing a collaborative group to serve interested NCICU Libraries by exploring deep collaboration opportunities.
NCICU, or North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, is comprised of the state’s 36 private, nonprofit liberal arts, research, and comprehensive colleges and universities accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). They provide research and information to and about private colleges and universities, offer staff development opportunities, and coordinate collaborative programs among the colleges and universities.
With the support of NCICU, the collaborative seeks to model the successful collaboration of other consortia, such as PALNI (the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana) by demonstrating that deep collaboration can help libraries to deal with issues including library management systems, storage, technical services, preservation, digitization and more.
